Since the global consensus on green and low-carbon development, the strategic importance of the recycling metals industry has become increasingly prominent. As industrialization accelerates and demand for metal resources continues to rise, recycled metals have emerged as a green, sustainable, and economically viable alternative, gaining worldwide attention. In recent years, Southeast Asia has become a critical global hub for recycling resource collection and processing. With the rapid internationalization of industries such as electric vehicles, numerous companies involved in recycled copper, aluminum, and battery processing have established operations in Thailand and other Southeast Asian nations. As the economic core of the region, Thailand benefits from a well-established recycling system, a strategic geographic location, and strong demand from its manufacturing sector. It has gradually evolved into a global center for the collection, sorting, and reprocessing of recycled aluminum, copper, and other metals, exporting significant volumes of recycled resources annually to China and other countries. Moreover, Thailand’s expanding automotive, electronics, and appliance manufacturing industries continue to provide robust demand for recycled metal resources. Building on the success of the inaugural SMM Global Renewable Metal Industry Chain Summit held in Malaysia in June 2024—which brought together global industry associations, government officials, and renowned enterprises to discuss the current state and future of the recycling industry—the 2025 SMM Global Recycling Metals Industry Summit will take place on June 12–13, 2025, in Thailand. This summit aims to bring together top enterprises, research institutions, industry experts, and policymakers from around the world to explore new trends, technologies, and policies in the recycling metals industry. By establishing an international platform for collaboration, resource sharing, and innovation, the summit seeks to drive the development of global resource recycling systems and contribute to the transition toward a green economy.
